Beat the Heat: Summerize Your Home!

As the temperatures start to soar in Arizona, it’s essential to prepare your home for the intense summer heat. Properly Summerizing your home can help keep it cool, reduce energy costs, and maintain a comfortable living environment for you and your family.

Follow our checklist of important factors to consider when prepping your home for the summer:

  1. Check Your Air Conditioning System

Your air conditioning system will be working hard during the summer months. Schedule a maintenance check to ensure it’s running efficiently. Replace or clean filters regularly and consider upgrading to a smart thermostat to optimize cooling and save energy.

  1. Seal Windows and Doors

Gaps and cracks around windows and doors can allow cool air to escape and hot air to enter your home. Seal these gaps with weatherstripping or caulk to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

  1. Insulate Your Home

Proper insulation helps regulate indoor temperatures and reduces the strain on your air conditioning system. Check your attic, walls, and floors for adequate insulation. Consider adding additional insulation if needed.

  1. Install Window Shades or Tints

Sunlight streaming through windows can heat up your home quickly. Install window shades, blinds, or tints to block out excess sunlight and keep your home cooler.

  1. Maintain Your Outdoor Space

Trim back overgrown trees and bushes around your home to improve airflow and reduce the risk of pests.  Consider adding shade structures like pergolas  or adding misters to create cooler outdoor spaces.

  1. Optimize Ventilation

Good airflow is key to keeping your home cool. Use ceiling fans or box fans to circulate air and keep indoor temperatures comfortable. Open windows during cooler evening times of the day to let fresh air in.

  1. Clean and Protect Outdoor Equipment

Ensure that outdoor furniture, grills, and other equipment are properly covered or stored to prevent damage from the sun's UV rays. Clean and maintain your pool to enjoy refreshing dips during the summer.

  1. Be Prepared for Power Outages

Summer storms can lead to power outages. Have backup power sources such as generators or power banks ready and keep flashlights and batteries on hand.

By following this checklist, you can keep your home cool, comfortable, and energy-efficient during the Arizona summer.

Stay cool and enjoy the summer!
